Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales Is A True Witcher Adventure | PC Review
Worried that Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is just story glued to Gwent? Fear not, with its story, puzzles and special rules our PC review thinks it’s a true Witcher adventure for fans and newcomers. Find out why in this handy video.
Our full Witcher Thronebreaker review is on Rock Paper Shotgun: The Site - there’s a link below - but this list explores how CD Projekt Red managed to turn the card game of Gwent into a proper Witcher adventure. The way cards are used to bring to life epic battles and monster clashes is pretty nifty - you’ll see Manticores built out of decks of cards and try and break down castle gate cards with catapult cards. Everything may be flat on the board, but there’s real depth to Thronebreaker gameplay.
In this video list, Matthew looks at how Thronebreaker Witchers Tales asks you to make moral decisions to shape your army and the world around you, how the world map captures the spirit of the The Witcher 3 and how puzzles act as side quests and teach you to play with new cards. He’s quite smitten with it. The Witcher Thronebreaker also takes us into some new story territory - Thronebreaker story looks into the lives of famous side characters and offers some background for people who played The Witcher 2. Want to know what kings were up to before they started being assassinated in that game? Here you go.
In our Thronebreaker review we also look at how the deck building captures the magic of being a Witcher, and how you’re encouraged to approach battles from different angles based on the challenge before you. We also look at Golden Chests, which hide bonus surprises, and explain how the game handles distractions outside the main Thronebreaker story. It’s genuinely very impressive how CD Projekt Red have captured the magic of the mainline Witcher games in such a weird spin-off.
If you have any questions about Thronebreaker, or any point that need explaining further, please let me know in the comments. I’ll do my best to clear up any confusion.

If you enjoyed this Thronebreaker: The Witcher tales review, I’d love for you to subscribe to Rock Paper Shotgun. We cover all things PC gaming-related - so while we may not cover endless fantasy card battling games, I hope that what we do cover is done with equal levels of care and attention. We’d love it if you did subscribe the channel, and it would be even better if you’d go back and discover some of our other videos, too. There is a lot of good stuff to work through. Thanks for watching Rock Paper Shotgun, and for reading this stupidly overlong video description.
