We’ve got a full MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries review on Rock Paper Shotgun, but these are the video team’s impressions of the game. We’ll admit that MechWarrior 5 stomped under our radar until now - it’s been so long since we set inside one of these giant metal beauties that we’d forgotten how powerful they made you feel. Whether thumping through buildings or running circles around enemies with a speedier build, few games better capture the sensation of steering a big metal man. As you’ll see from this MechWarrior 5 gameplay, it captures these chunky brutes with real style. So while it has been 18 years since the last MechWarrior game, this Mechwarrior 5 test shows the series still has something to say. We are particularly into the Mercenaries aspect that puts you at the head of a company with contracts to negotiate and business decisions to dictate. It gives the game a great structure outside of the on-foot combat, helping justify a really meaty campaign. As we say in the video we’ve not finished the game yet, but there’s tens and tens of hours of mech management to be done.
