One night, gathered with his friends around a campfire, Tuomas Hulopainen had the idea of creating a musical group whose tunes he would compose. This anecdote, which looks like the beginnings of a Nordic tale, is the origin of the idea of @Nightwish, a group born in a region of eastern Finland, in North Karelia.
Nightwish, does this name mean something to you? Today described as the flagship band of the Scandinavian metal scene, it is also the best known representative of symphonic metal, a genre mixing metal and influences from lyrical music. The voice of the group, embodied until 2005 by Tarja Turunen, was replaced first by Anette Olzon, then by Floor Jansen in 2012: if the difference between the first singer and the following marks a turning point in the style of the group, the group has been able to reinvent itself and guarantee its longevity.
And for proof! In 2016, the band celebrated its 20th anniversary with great fanfare, with an event tour, notably at Tampere Stadium in Finland and Wembley, England. Their latest album, Human. :II: Nature. was released in April 2020: a double album consisting of a 9-track CD and a long track divided into eight chapters on the second CD. A new consecration for the group with multi-award-winning albums… which will come to perform on the Hellfest stage this year!
