What Does And Doesn’t Work In Shadow Of The Tomb Raider | PC Review
Shadow Of The Tomb Raider has it all: loads of tombs, loads of puzzles and - most importantly - loads of llamas. But it is a true return to classic Tomb Raider games? Find out as we explore what works and what doesn’t work in Shadow of the Tomb Raider on PC.
Our full Shadow of the Tomb Raider review is over on Rock Paper Shotgun, but these are Matthew’s thoughts after 25 hours with the game. For the record, Matthew likes classic Tomb Raider and holds Tomb Raiders Legend, Anniversary and Underworld to be the highlight of the series, so he went looking to see if the latest game offered the same kind of experience as those. We’re talking about giant tombs packed with puzzle and platforming, and a better sense of exciting adventure instead of the grim survival of the previous reboots.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider delivers big on many of these things - there are more tombs than we were expecting, with challenge tombs and crypts taking us to some really crazy places. Weirdly, it comes at the cost of combat - this is a surprisingly combat-free game, compared to the Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise, at least. What is here is fab - the stealth is fast and nasty, the combat slick and punchy - but there isn’t enough of it. It also means the skill tree and weapon upgrades feel like unneeded developments. As the video explains, it’s not a game breaker, by Shadow of the Tomb Raider does feel like it’s doing two things at once.
Hopefully you’ll watch these Shadow of the Tomb raider impressions all the way through to get a feel for the PC gameplay. It’s largely spoiler free - we haven’t covered the story or the big social hubs where you spend most of the game. But if you do have any questions about the game, pop them in the comments and we’ll answer them ASAP. Oh, and a word of advice: when you get to set the difficulty in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, punch exploration and puzzles up to hard for the best experience - as the video explains, it makes you feel more like a proper Tomb Raider.
If you enjoyed our Shadow of the Tomb Raider PC review, why not subscribe to Rock Paper Shotgun for more videos like it. We cover everything from blockbusters to bus simulators. And again, any questions about Shadow of the Tomb Raider, pop them in the comments. Well done for reading all this nonsense and I hope you enjoy the video.
