Social Distortion is a career spanning more than forty years: founded in 1978 by its pillar Mike Ness, the group has established itself today as a reference on the Californian punk-rock scene. The story of Social Distortion could be the subject of a campus film whose discography would be the soundtrack: composed in its beginnings of university friendships, the group first established itself as a punk group, with influences from England such as The Clash or The Ramones.
Between departures and reformations, the group imposes itself beyond the Orange County region with a national tour with Youth Brigade in 1982, which will be the subject of the documentary Another State Of Mind. The recipe for their success? Well-crafted rock, mixed with energetic punk and melancholy lyrics, carried by the charismatic frontman Mike Ness, described by the Los Angeles Times as "one of rock's most underrated composers".
Since the release of the album Prison Bound in 1988, the group has refined its style and affirmed its references and overcome separations and personal setbacks with seven opuses and a dozen live albums. Their latest album, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, released in 2011, puts a coin back into the success machine of these punk-rock veterans who have lost none of their vitality: they will prove it once again on the stage of the Hellfest!
