All New #AstonMartin #Vantage - still a RWD V8 Coupe, but now at a staggering 665PS and 800NM!
Today’s car showcases the new wide body half stolen from V12 Vantage, finished in Cosmopolitan yellow. 30MM Wider to be precise, with an almost 40% bigger front grille, and gone are the MX-5 lights, replaced with a set much more in keeping with Astons of recent history.
Aston call it: “The definitive front-engined rear wheel drive sports car”
But they go further: “And a car that champions qualities difficult to find in today’s sports car market, making a stand for disenfranchised petrolheads.” — Fighting words by Aston! Aimed squarely at the car market as a whole, main rival Porsche, and AMG who have abandoned this pure format in their new GT!
And it’s hard to argue with them, this new #AstonMartinVantage is the perfect personification of the brand, a classy no apologies emotional sports car. Just like the New DB12, which is a no apologies Super GT.
In terms of changed, we have a heavily updated 4.0 twin turbo engine. Still using the AMG sourced lump, which is an amazing place to start - but Aston’s version of the engine is on another level.
It now gives us 665PS, or BHP, and 800NM, and a 0-60 of 3.4 seconds! That’s a MASSIVE 150PS uptick, and 15% more torque! How? We have larger turbos, modified cam profiles, optimised compression ratios, and increased cooling. Making it powerful, and an engine with a sharper, more visceral and more vocal character.
ZF 8 Speed is still the gearbox, but now with shorter final drive ratio for quicker in gear acceleration, and shifts have been upgraded to be quicker depending on mode. New Launch Control System on offer too - to limit wheel slip throughout the launch, by using the ESP, E-diff etc. Drivers can decide the amount of slip they want in the launch too via the 10-stage traction control switch!
The chassis is key though - tuned for driver engagement, still with the perfect 50/50 weight distribution.
Biggest news are the all new Bilstein DTX adaptive dampers - 500% increase in bandwidth vs previous hardware, set to make the car more dynamic and more comfortable. The new Electronic rear diff (E-Diff) can go from zero to full lock in 135 milli seconds, and reacts as quick as 60 ms! Finally, AML specific Michelin Pilot S 5 tyres top it all off!
But the cherry on top? The new interior - a HUGE upgrade just like the new DB12. All new non-mercedes infotainment system built around buttons rather than screens. It’s more sporty than the DB12, with the buckets from the V12 car, and more carbon.
