The Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka was the most revealing event of the 2024 Formula 1 season so far.
Not only did it complete a set of four races at tracks with vastly differing characteristics, giving us our most rounded view of the performance of the cars yet. It also marked the first weekend of significant upgrades.
What’s more, as this race was just six months after the last one at Suzuka, it’s the best measure so far of the gains made by the 10 teams with their new cars.
So what conclusions can we draw? Well, we’ve picked out seven key takeaways from the Japanese Grand Prix weekend that reveal all.
0:00 Why we learned so much
0:34 McLaren gains are not enough
1:52 Perez hitting targets - for now
3:33 Struggling Ricciardo's chassis plan
4:57 The surprise biggest improver
6:19 Leclerc's unexpected weakness
7:56 The only winner at F1's worst team
8:58 Mercedes is where it should've started 2024
