Is Legacy of The First Blade Worth Playing? | AC Odyssey DLC Review
Legacy of the First Blade concludes with Episode 3 Bloodline - and now that we’ve played the entire AC Odyssey DLC is it worth playing? This Assassin’s Creed Odyssey DLC review looks at the whole season - is it a good standalone or only worth it in the season pass?
Assassins Creed Odyssey Legacy of the Hidden Blade Episode 3 Bloodline (give me a second to catch my breath after typing that) finishes a three episode story arc that tells the tale of what happens when original assassin Darius rocks up in Greece with a gang of Persians in pursuit. You may have seen our earlier AC Odyssey DLC review - you can hear our thoughts on Episode 1 here (https://youtu.be/g0arfbt35Vk). Today we’re looking at AC Odyssey episode 3, and seeing if Ubisoft bring it to a satisfying conclusion.
The problem with looking at individual episodes in a Legacy of the First Blade review is that it doesn’t capture the emotional heft of a finished story. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Bloodline deals with some interesting themes set up by the first two episodes - what happens when an assassin tries to set up a family and find peace? Is such a thing attainable? Short answer: not without chopping lots of people up. The biggest surprise in the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey DLC is how much it focuses on your hero’s journey insteads of Darius - yeah, he set the story in motion, but it’s still a tale focused on personal ramifications. And no, you don’t get an Assassin’s Creed Odyssey hidden blade. Pity!
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Legacy of the First Blade isn’t the most experimental of DLC packs. It’s set in the existing map and doesn’t introduce many new powers to change up the combat. It’s fun hunting the Order of the Ancients - kind of like hunting the Cult of Kosmos in fast forward - but it’s over in a quick ten to twelve hours. The question then, is whether the AC Odyssey is worth buying as a standalone DLC pack or as part of the season pass, if at all. We definitely don’t recommend it as a standalone - it’s almost half the price of the main game for just a fraction of the size, but it is more appealing in the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey season pass. Of course, hold off until we review the Atlantis add-on to see if it’s really worth it.
