Formula 1 has announced a raft of radical new rule changes aimed at closing up the field and securing the futures of its teams. Some of the new rules will be introduced immediately for 2020. It's the first time F1 has tried to give an advantage to its smaller teams, with a sliding scale of development time being made available based on where each team has finished in the championship. There's also an engine freeze coming for the first time since the V8 era, further restrictions to the budget cap, and limits on what teams can do with their 2020 cars now those designs have to race on into 2021 as well.
