A new legality test has been introduced in Formula 1 following Red Bull’s complaints about Mercedes’ supposedly trick rear wing.
Red Bull has been pressuring the FIA for a ruling on what it believes to be illegal rear wing behaviour on the Mercedes and explicitly threatened to lodge a protest in Qatar or over the final two races of the season.
In response, a new legality test has been created. But it does not form part of the regulatory requirement as the test is only being assessed for future use.
So what’s the point of it, and has it actually made any difference?
