Two of F1’s best drivers have signed new long-term deals on the eve of the 2024 season that have more wide-reaching consequences than both of them staying put might initially suggest.
Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc are sticking with the status quo by betting on McLaren and Ferrari respectively, and in doing so are removing themselves from what looks like a very volatile driver market for the next couple of years.
Essentially, they are gambling that it’s a case of ‘better the non-Red Bull team you know’ if they are going to start winning regularly and fighting for championships.
