At its launch McLaren was already notably cautious, bordering on pessimistic, about its chances for the start of the 2023 F1 season.
It admitted to not being entirely happy with its launch car and placed an emphasis on early-season upgrades.
At the test in Bahrain, some familiar weaknesses have been observed trackside and McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown has indicated McLaren does not expect to be as competitive as it hoped.
He also revealed the extent of McLaren’s unhappiness with the car it’s starting the season with - admitting that the team actually missed some of its development targets.
